History of American Football Positions

History of American Football Positions

$66.91

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Part of the confusion with American Football position names is that they are based on the role the player normally has in the offense, rather than necessarily his position at the start of the play. Tight Ends, for instance, usually line up to the outside of one of the offensive tackles. However, a Tight End might also line up in the area usually reserved for a Wide Receiver, or even take the place of a Fullback in the offensive backfield; such Tight Ends are usually called HBacks. You also might not be able to tell the difference between the Halfback and the Fullback by where they are lined up. Their main difference instead is based on their role in the offense (Halfbacks run more, while Fullbacks are usually used to block). Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 96 Publication Date: 2010/06/26 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.22 inches

Association Football Positions

Association Football Positions

$92.4

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles In the sport of association football, each of the eleven players on a team is assigned to a particular position on the field of play. A team is made up of one goalkeeper and ten outfield players who fill various defensive, midfield and attacking positions depending on the formation deployed. These positions describe both the players main role and their area of operation on the pitch. As the game has evolved, tactics and team formations have changed, and the names of the positions and the duties involved have evolved as well. The fluid nature of the modern game means that positions in football are not as formally defined as in sports such as rugby or American football. Even so, most players will play in a limited range of positions throughout their career, as each position requires a particular set of skills. Footballers who are able to play comfortably in numerous positions are referred to as utility players. However, in Total Football tactics, the players are only loosely defined into a position. This tactic required players who were extremely versatile, such as Johan Cruijff, who could play every position on the pitch apart from goalkeeper. Uniform Number (American Football)

$162.5

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The uniform numbers in American football are unusual compared to those in any other sport. They are displayed in more locations on the uniform than in those of other sports (on both the front and back of the jersey, on both shoulders, and often on the helmet), and on the front of the jersey, they are displayed very large, taking up almost the entire front of the jersey. Just as importantly, certain numbers may only be worn by players playing particular positions; thus the jersey numbers assist the officials in determining possible illegal actions by players.Unlike most other sports, in which teams have smaller rosters, American football players routinely have uniform numbers that cover the full range of numbers from 1 to 99. In other sports, where not as many numbers are needed, lower numbers are more traditional and are usually desired by players. But in American football, with the number of players on a roster sometimes exceeding 100, there is a need for many more numbers. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Fantasy Football (American)

Fantasy Football (American)

$84.44

Fantasy Football is a fantasy sports game in which participants (called owners ) are arranged into a competitive league, earning fantasy points by using the statistics of real football players. The owners of each league draft reallife American football players, typically from either the NFL or NCAA, filling a roster containing the various offense or defensive positions on a team, such as Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, and Tight End. Depending on how well the players on an Owners team do in a given week, the team earns Fantasy Points to compete against the other owners in the league. If a running back rushes for a touchdown, for instance, the running back earned a predetermined amount of points for that running backs owner. At the end of the season, winloss records determine league rankings or qualifications into a playoff bracket. Most leagues set aside the last weekends of the regular season for their own playoffs, which determines the leagues champion for that season. Fantasy football has become an incredibly popular phenomenon. 3-4 Defense Stunt Attacks (DVD)

3-4 Defense Stunt Attacks (DVD)

$39.99

With Wayne Nunnely,Denver Broncos Defensive Line Coach; former San Diego Chargers Defensive Line CoachLed by Wayne Nunnely, the Charger 3-4 defense has recently ranked as high as third in the NFL against the run allowing only 81.7 yards per game and held their opponents to just 3.7 yards per carry! Coach Nunnely brings 30 years of football coaching experience to this DVD and shares stunts from the strong side and the weak side. The presentation begins by naming each of the linebackers according to their specific coverage. For example, the strong side stunt is called the “Sam Bullet”, lining up in a 9 technique on the outside shoulder of the tight end. He will either stunt inside or outside of the tight end. Nunnely goes on to name and define each; the strong side end, the nose, the weak side end, the weak outside linebacker (“Will”), the “Mo” linebacker, the strong side linebacker (“Mike”). Coach Nunnely also details coverage for a strong side run and a weak side run for all 7 positions. Each of the stunts in this DVD is illustrated using game footage. Coach Nunnely explains the entire system also from the eyes of the “Will” backer, introducing the Will Bullet, Will Easy, Will Jax and Will Cross. The Mike Rush is an inside stunt run by the Chargers. The Mike will rush through the “B” gap or the “A” gap based on the offensive set. Any coach that runs the 3-4 defense can learn a great deal and incorporate these NFL stunts into your game plan. By developing a strong side, weak side, and inside stunt attack, your defense will make every yard a struggle for your opponent! 53 minutes. 2006.

14 Fictional Positions

14 Fictional Positions

$28.52

In France, Eric Miles Williamson is known as "The Erudite Bukowski." In America, he has been called "The Last Beat." Best known for his internationally praised and stunning novels of the blue-collar world, with the publication of 14 Fictional Positions, Williamson now shows his readers he is much more than a chronicler of the lives of workers and America’s downtrodden. Williamson may have triumphantly captured the blue-collar experience in his novels, East Bay Grease, Two-Up, and Welcome to Oakland, but 14 Fictional Positions shows us that he, above all, is a painstakingly careful author deeply entrenched in the history of his medium. Former editor of Chelsea and Gulf Coast, now editor of American Book Review, The Texas Review, and Boulevard, longtime member of the Board of Directors of the National Book Critics Circle, and a college teacher since 1984, Williamson may have humble beginnings, but he is now a powerful force in America’s literary establishment. Each of the stories in 14 Fictional Positions snaps with precision and intelligence. In "Hope, Among Other Vices and Virtues," we find two men drinking "in manly tandem" whose women loathe them as much as they love them. "I love you," says Agnes. "You are everything in a man I want to change." "H A N G M A N," set evidently in Brazil, weaves "a leaf-fringed legend" of two lovers whose lives are dictated by the formal arrangement of words and literary references. In "Phrases and Philosophies for the Use of the Young" Williamson shows himself to be an aphorist of the caliber of George Bernard Shaw, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Oscar Wilde, both witty and erudite. "The Teachings of Don B." is a ghost story unlike any other in the English language, humorous and sad, insightful and playful, an homage to the foremost of Williamson’s many prominent mentors, who include Harold Bloom, Denis Donoghue, Ronald Sukenick, Jacques Derrida, Edward Dorn, and, of course, the ghost of Donald Barthelme. Twenty-five years in the making, 14 Fictional Positions is a landmark short story collection, and confirmation that Eric Miles Williamson is an author whose energy, talent, and wisdom place him among the very best authors at work today in America.

Coaching Youth Football: Installing the 50 Defense (DVD)

Coaching Youth Football: Installing the 50 Defense (DVD)

$39.99

With Jerry Campbell, Head Football Coach, Clovis (CA) High SchoolThis video is essential for youth coaches who may need a refresher on various 50 defenses or anyone who is new coaching defense. Coach Campbell works with 7, 8, and 9 year olds in this video to demonstrate the simplicity of installing the multiple 50 defense. The multiple 50 defense takes advantage of young quarterbacks who do not have the mechanics or throwing accuracy to beat you solely by throwing the ball. By putting seven and eight players in the box you force teams to throw long to beat you while you put your players in great position to defend the run. Beginning with the 52 defense, Coach Campbell covers player responsibilities and how to attack offenses with various blitzes. He then moves to the 53 defense, 62 defense, and finally demonstrates the 7 diamond. Coach Campbell also installs cover zero, cover 2 and cover 3 to each defense. Excellent instruction! 30 minutes. 2005.

In Defense of American Higher Education

In Defense of American Higher Education

$3.95

The current era in higher education is characterized by increased need for accountability and fiscal constraint coupled with demands for increased productivity. Higher education is expected to meet the demand of changing student demographics, as well as requests for research and service from government and industry. To preserve the academy’s ability to meet these demands, the editors and contributors to this volume argue that, while change is inevitable and desirable, any radical alterations to the practices that have established and upheld the excellence of higher education in the United States must be carefully considered. The editors and contributors cherish the best ideals of higher education: academic freedom, commitment to both inquiry and teaching, and preservation of an independence of mind and spirit in the face of external pressures. At the same time, the authors of these essays also reflect upon the failings of higher education, including problematic historical legacies such as racism, sexism, and anti-semitism. In Defense of American Higher Education is a careful analysis of what we have inherited, undertaken with a critical eye for constructive reform. It will be of interest to anyone concerned about the future of American higher education.
